the devil you know

The whole phrase is Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t. I seem to live by that unfortunately. In relationships, its sometimes easier to stay around the one who we know even if they are bad for us, rather than risking the unknown of a new relationship, or even loneliness.

I think too often we sit back and just stick things out due to that fear of the unknown. Being alone is definitely not for the faint of heart. We all need and thrive off of human touch. Just like what Billy Joel sings in his song Innocent Man, “Some people live with the fear of a touch and the anger of having been a fool. They will not listen to anyone so nobody tells them a lie.” We have all been hurt, some more, some less, but our hearts have all been broken.Even with that, we need each other, but some are just too afraid of being hurt again.

For me, the devil I know is loneliness. Maybe that’s why I’m a photographer……
